Portuguese loose quality of life
Numbers released from a study conducted by the insurance firm AXA classified the Portuguese as “a population not motivated about work ".The study reveals that 50 percent of the people that are now retired stopped working before the age established by law and more than two thirds did this ate their own will. The same study confirmed that the population still active expects to retire at the age 58. In comparison to the12 countries also included in this study, the Portuguese are the ones that less prepare for their retirement and consequently also the ones that receive the lowest pensions. For this reason after leaving work the majority of Portuguese loses quality of life and end up regretting having retired before the age of 65 years.

In the USA we cannot afford to retire at an early age mainly due to the thirty-year mortgage payments. Baby boomers have been refinancing and withdrawing whatever increase in value of their homes to spend in different ways: tuition for their children, 20-30K/year, remodeling so that the house continues to retain market value and then the "gaspillage" (unnecessary spending) -- travel, new cars...
However, in the case of the Portuguese workers, if the pensions are money enough to get them by, I wonder why not? Maybe that's my Brazilian indolent roots speaking. I'm going to keep on reading. ;)

When my computer (XP or Vista) is idle for a few minutes, the read-write lamp begins to flash like a defrag or virus scan is running. When I open the task manager, a "system idle process" seems to be active. I have turned off scheduled defragmenting, windows defender and virus scans, and even in my travel laptop with no antivirus this "dreaming" occures. It must be a windows component as this happens even on a new computer, without any third party software. I'd rather not have my hard drive thrashing like this every day if it is not necessary. What the heck is this?
