Portuguese counterfeit apprehension record

In 2005, the police carried out 1,041 raids of outdoor markets and other places where counterfeit music and films are sold, a 14 percent increase over the previous year. As a result 450 people were charged with crimes related to the sale and distribution of counterfeit CDs and DVDs. The police seized 155,941 pirated CDs and DVDs in 2005, a 50 percent increase over the previous year, stated the Culture Ministry's Inspectorate General for Cultural Activities in a report. Together with the pirated material five cars and various copying equipment was also seized from counterfeiters, worth 3.1 million euros. News source IHT.
