Iran’s ambassador praises Freitas de Amaral

Iran’s ambassador in Portugal praised yesterday the attitude showed by the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Freitas do Amaral, concerning the caricatures of Muhammad.

In declarations to the Radio Station Antena 1, Mohammed Taheri, considered positive the Minister attitude classifying them as “ very good and very logic”

Last week the Minister of Foreign Affairs criticised the publication of the cartoons stating that freedom of expression had “limits”. In an interview to the news channel SIC Noticias, freitas de Amaral said that he did not defend press censorship but that there is a need for “common sense”. The ambassador of Iran added that Portuguese newspapers showed a positive attitude by only reporting the news and not publishing the cartoons.

If I was that Foreign Minister I was smilingly and diplomaticly say to the Ambassador of Iran that I thank him so much for his interest in our personal affairs, I appreciate the concern for the display of sensibility. After that, I'd also say that I was confident the government of Iran would show a parallel exquisite sensibility fixing the troublesome and utterly delicate situation of Nazanin, hence releaving the sleep of the people of Portugal from such a disturbing nightmare.

Reciprcity, that's the answer. Otherwise we'd be going in the wrong direction, that's why.
