Portugal and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) signed an accord on Saturday that could lead to technology partnerships in the Iberian nation.
The agreement is part of the Socialist government's programme to boost stagnant economic growth in western Europe's poorest country through technology spending.
"We want to include Portugal in the knowledge economy on the global level," Prime Minister Jose Socrates said at the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, MIT will evaluate Portugal's scientific and technology system over a period of five months for possible future partnerships.(Reuters)
